JEFFREY FECZKO / OWNER & GUIDE AT TO THE GILLS

I BEGAN FLY FISHING & TYING AT A YOUNG AGE AND SINCE THEN, NOT MUCH OTHER THAN MY LOCATION HAS CHANGED. MY TWENTIES WERE SPENT WORKING IN ALASKA , OBTAINING MY 100T USCG MASTER CAPTAINS LICENSE AND TRAVELING TO NEW PLACES TO FISH. WHEN I REACHED 30 ALL OF MY TRAVELS HELPED ME REALIZE I NO LONGER WANT TO LIVE IN WADERS AND WAS SPENDING THE MAJORITY OF THE YEAR IN MEXICO, ECUADOR AND OTHER HOT CLIMATES. I GUIDED A FEW SEASONS IN THE SEYCHELLES AT ALPHONSE FISHING COMPANY, ST. FRANCOIS, ASTOVE & COSMOLEDO ATOLLS AND LOVED IT, HOWEVER NEAR 12 MONTHS OF GUIDING BETWEEN THERE AND ALASKA WORE ME OUT AND I MISSED BAJA FIERCELY. I WANTED TO QUIT GUIDING SO I STARTED WORKING ON MY PILOTS LICENSE, COVID HAPPENED AND ESSENTIALLY ENDED THAT. TO BE A GOOD PILOT, YOU NEED TO BE AS CRAZY ABOUT IT AS I AM FISHING, I DIDN’T HAVE THAT AND BY FEBRUARY 2020 I MADE IT HOME TO BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, MEXICO AND YEAR ROUND MAKE A LIVING BY TAKING FOLKS FISHING. BAJA BLESSES YOU AS AN ANGLER BY GIVING WAY TO A HUGE VARIETY OF SPECIES, IN DIVERSE ENVIRONMENTS REQUIRING AN EXPERIENCED, CREATIVE & RESOURCEFUL SKILL SET. A SMALL PART OF THE REASON I CHOSE THIS LOCATION FOR MYSELF IS THAT I LOVE A GOOD CHALLENGE AND SHORE BASED FISHING, SURF, ROCKS, WHATEVER – AS LONG AS MY FEET ARE IN THE SAND, I’M HAPPY. THE FREEDOM TO FISH HERE IS ALL YOURS AND TO REALLY GET OUT THERE, USUALLY INVOLVES AN A SLIGHT ELEMENT OF RISK. YOU MAY GET THAT TIME SPENT BACK EVENTUALLY. I HAVE TRAVELED & GUIDED ALL OVER THE WORLD, FISHED MY ENTIRE LIFE AND IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING, BAJA IS HOME AND THE BEST & MOST EXCITING FISHERY ON THE PLANET. THE PEOPLE, CULTURE, CLIMATE & FOOD KEEP ME THERE. I LOVE MY LITTLE, STRIPED STREET DOG AND WORKING WITH CORTEZ RESCUE & EFFORTS FOR THE HEALTH AND WELL BEING OF ANIMALS IN MEXICO.
